Update on the village website (www.gotherington.org.uk)

As part of the process of the parish council moving to a new gov.uk website, the old domains www.gotheringtonparishcouncil.org.uk and www.gotherington.org.uk were shut down recently.

Because of new legislation, local councils are required to move to a gov.uk website. The content on the village website could not be a part of this move because the council must have full control over everything on a gov.uk site and it must be for council content only. For various reasons, this change was not communicated as widely or clearly as it should have been, so many residents were surprised and concerned to find that the village website was offline.

This morning the Clerk worked with IONOS to establish the process for restoring the website, and following written confirmation of support from a majority of councillors, arranged for the village website to be brought back online. This decision will be formally confirmed at the next council meeting (Tuesday 11th August), where ongoing arrangements for the village website will also be considered.
